5 ways to make vegan chocolate cake from scratch

With the holiday season drawing to a close, it’s time to give you a new favourite way to enjoy a frosting-filled vegan chocolate milkshake or cake.


Vegan Chocolate Cake from the Gluten Free Zone Vegan chocolate cake is the perfect combination of chocolate and cream.

The chocolate adds a layer of sweetness, while the cream adds a creamy, creamy finish.

This cake can be made in the freezer, frozen and even baked on the grill.

You’ll need: chocolate cake mix 1 1/2 cups of icing sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 cup chocolate chips (1 tbsp) 1 1 /2 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon baking soda 2 tablespoons vegan buttercream 1 teaspoon chocolate chips 1/8 teaspoon vanilla  (optional) 1/3 cup powdered sugar 1 cup sour cream, to taste Vegan chocolate milk (recipe below) Vegan chocolate cookies 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder 1/6 cup sugar Vegan chocolate ice cream Vegan chocolate sprinkles 1 cup sugar (to sprinkle on top) Instructions Preheat the oven to 190C/350F/Gas mark 6.

Grease a 9 x 7 inch cake tin and line the bottom with baking paper.

In a small bowl, whisk together the icing sugar, vanilla extract and chocolate chips.

Mix well and add to the dry ingredients.

Mix in the flour, baking powder, salt, baking soda and chocolate.

Whisk in the buttercream and chocolate and mix until well combined.

Divide the batter evenly between the two baking trays.

Line two 9 x 8 inch cake trays with the icing mix.

Make a well in the centre of each tray, and pour in the batter.

Place in the oven for 20 minutes, or until the edges are firm.

Cool for about 15 minutes before slicing into squares.

Make chocolate chips if using vegan chocolate chips: In a medium bowl, combine the sugar, cocoa powder and sugar.

Add to the wet ingredients and mix well.

Add the sour cream and chocolate chip mixture.

Mix to combine.

Transfer the chocolate chips to a piping bag fitted with a 1/16″ nozzle and pipe the chocolate onto the trays (about 1/7 inch apart).

Place in an oven-proof bowl and allow to set for 30 minutes.

To serve, place the chocolate squares on a serving plate and top with the remaining vegan chocolate milk.
