This is the recipe you need to know to make crab cakes that are the ultimate birthday cake and party appetizers!

It is a wonderful combination of the classic crust and the fresh ingredients you can easily mix up in a hurry.

This recipe makes about 1 1/2 cups of crab cakes which you can then refrigerate or freeze.

The crust and sauce are great to layer on top of crab cake and other appetizers.

You can also use these for sandwiches and salads! 

How to make Crab Cake Crust Crusts (1/2 cup) – 1 cup crab meat, cut into pieces, about 3/4 cup shredded cheese, about 1/4 teaspoon salt, about a tablespoon of pepper (I like to use a good Italian seasoning blend like Italian seasoning) – 2 tablespoons butter (or margarine or coconut oil) – 3 tablespoons flour (or cornstarch) – a pinch of salt – 1/8 teaspoon dried parsley, about 2/3 cup water – 1 tablespoon sugar (or more if desired) Mix the crust ingredients in a small bowl or a stand mixer.

The dough will be sticky and it will need to be separated.

(If you use a bowl, you can add a little water and mix it in.)

Fold in the shredded cheese.

Mix well.

Pour the dough into a 9 by 13 inch baking pan.

Make sure the crust is covered with foil, so it doesn’t stick.

Bake for 30 minutes, or until it has risen.

When the crab cakes are done, let them cool for 10 minutes. 

How do you prepare crab cakes?

Prepare the crusts as follows: Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Mix together butter, flour, salt, pepper, parsley and 1/3 teaspoon dried mint.

Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat.

When butter is melted, add the flour.

Add the chopped parsley.

Cook for 2 minutes or until softened.

Add salt and pepper and cook for 1 more minute.

Add butter and continue cooking for 2 more minutes.

Remove from heat.

Spread out the crab cake mixture on a sheet pan, then bake in the oven for 30-40 minutes or the crabcake will be cooked and the sauce will be bubbling on the surface.

The crab cake will still be crisp when you take it out of the oven. 

When the crabcakes are done they will be golden brown on top.

If you want to make sure that the crab is done before you slice them, put the crab in the freezer for about 5 minutes.

Cut into 1/16 inch slices. 

Cut into 1 1 /2 inch slices for garnish. Enjoy!
